PROJECT 3: Nature's Retreat

Spider Web Analysis

1) Types of Web
Cob web, Orb web, Sheet web, Funnel web.

2) Structure
Tension structure.

3) Circulation
Free flow circulation with maximum ventilation.

4) Texture
Elastic (silk).

5) Configuration of path
Network, Pass through spaces.

6) Material (Defining space)
Sticky thread: to trap prey
Non-sticky thread: to allow movement

Idea Board
Combining Spider web and Daniel Libeskind - 18.36.54

1) Design Intention
-Appreciating the environment / nature.
-Blending in with nature.
-Involvement of human activities with nature surroundings.

2) Design Consideration
-Uneven topography.
-Insects and wild animals.
-Weather and moisture.

3) Circulation
-Pass through spaces.
-Network pathway.
-Oblique approach.

4) Activity Space
-Folding platform / deckings to approach streams / river flow

Final Model

Final Boards
Enfold In-complexity

1) Design Intention
-Maximum air ventilation and penetration of natural lighting (sunlight).
-Different roof levels are formed to create multiple openings for the penetration of light and air flow.

2) Materials
-Stainless steel.
-Timber.

Photo Montage
Photo montage is done manually, using cut and paste method. Pictures are printed black and white on tracing papers and are cut and paste to create different layering, for a 3D effect.

PRESENTATION: Project 2 - Illusion by Light

Final Board
Inspired by Daniel Libeskind - 18.36.54, designing using folding elements that create a simple exterior / outlook with a complex interior of different element.

IN-COMPLEXITY

Naming the light design as "In-Complexity", my intention was to indicate that the design is 'incomplex', which means simple and not complex. And to also to indicate 'in-complex', which is meant by complex on the inside.
Complexity is shown through the shadow projected out

PROJECT 2: Illusion By Light

Idea Board

1) Simple exterior
Exterior will be several simple folded planes that will be done with wood.

2) Complex interior
Whereas the interior, steel. Complexity will be shown through the projection of shadows.

3) Point, Lines, Planes
Points, lines and planes are still emphasized on the lighting.

The whole concept will be concentrating on the shadows as it will be showing the complexity of the whole form which is related to the case study, Daniel Libeskind-18.36.54. Points, lines and planes are clearly shown throughout the whole form.

PRESENTATION: Project 1b - Abstract Model

Abstract Model

Core Concepts

1)Folded Planes
Lines are folded to form Planes. By folding the planes, spaces are form.

2) Clustered Form
The organization of this abstract model is clustered as planes are intercepting each other in a non-linear way.

3) Interlocking Space
Public spaces and private spaces are interlocked in Daniel Libeskind's design to show the flow throughout the spaces.
Gaps within the lines on the planes shows the
types of space

PRESENTATION: Project 1a - 18.36.54 by Daniel Libeskind

Design Approaches:

1) Folding concept

-Spaces are created through folded planes

2) Sharp points
-Showing the hierarchy of the house

3)  Counterpoint
-Showing the parallel line through spaces

4) Reflective exterior
-To reflect on the surroundings that change
  the color of the house

Design Elements:

1) Organization

-Clustered

2) Principle
-Hierarchy

3) Space-defining elements
-Light
-Materials

Circulation:

1) Approach

-Oblique

2) Entrance
-Recessed

3) Configuration of path
-Network / Fluid / Free-flow

4) Path-space relation
-Pass through space

Zoning / Spatial Organization:
1) Interlocking spaces
Materials:

1) Stainless steel

-To reflect the surroundings that causes
the change of color of the house

2) Oakwood
-To provide comfy interior spaces

3) Concrete
-Used as the floor to provide support

Group mate: Chua Ching Pheng (:

It was fun teaming up with CCP. Learned lots of stuff together, got inspired by Daniel Libeskind together, watched the final match of World Cup 2014 while doing the boards together, stone together when we're both out of ideas, listened to stupid songs together while preparing, good experience. Thank you CCP (:

About: Daniel Libeskind

Daniel Libeskind
Born on May 12, 1946
American-Polish
Architect, Artist
Founder of Studio Daniel Libeskind (1989)

An architect who believes that architecture is about designing spaces, in unexpected ways and complex forms, mostly sharp and pointy to show sparks of a new energy and focus, and are inexplicable as each building holds its own story that should be discovered and be remembered.

“Our lives are complex; our emotions are complex; our intellectual desires are complex. I believe that architecture … needs to mirror that complexity in every single space that we have, in every intimacy that we possess.” — Daniel Libeskind
